The establishment of a motorsport business park that encourages and brings together skills in research, design, manufacturing, marketing, education and other fields of work that targets offshore work in the long term is essential to build what is potentially a thriving industry for Franklin.
Pukekohe is already internationally recognised for the role it plays in motorsport in New Zealand and with it's proximity to the main centres, it makes an ideal choice for the siting of Motorplex New Zealand.
Motorplex NZ will provide through the business park:
- A network of expertise in the motorsport industry
- A culture of collaboration and innovation between research, entrepreneurs and business
- A core facilities building providing business infrastructure ready to accelerate and incubate new business
- On site and networked professional services to effectively mobilise new businesses
- Shared services to allow businesses to focus on their core processes, services and products
- Sufficient land for further development
- A regional hub of networks to provide resources to the industry
The business park model will closely follow that of Innovation Waikato, one of New Zealand’s most successful Innovation Centres. This model has an operating company established to develop and deliver services to tenants of the Waikato Innovation Park.
"2005 has been another year of positive growth for the Waikato Innovation Park. We now have 50 companies established with over 260 employees under our roof, and we continue to be actively involved in helping our tenants and cluster companies grow and thrive. In fact, we have now helped to raise over $12 million for Waikato companies." (Derek Fairweather, CEO Innovation Waikato, 2005 Wrap Up)
